Everything side by side

Eneco and Vattenfall both offer fixed, variable and dynamic energy contracts. The main difference is not in the energy tax or system operator charges, because those are the same for both. The differences lie mainly in the supply charges, fixed charges, promotional terms and feed-in charges.

At Eneco, with a fixed or variable contract you pay an amount per kWh fed back. Until 1 January 2027, Vattenfall works with feed-in brackets and charges no fixed feed-in charges if you feed back a maximum of 500 kWh on an annual basis. From 2027, both suppliers charge per kWh fed back. The exact amounts are in your contract. Eneco shows separate rates for 2026 and 2027 for new contracts.

You can also easily control energy deals from Eneco and Vattenfall call for a careful look. Check when the cash discount is paid out (or offset) and whether you have to complete the full term of the contract, because if you terminate early the discount may lapse and a cancellation fee may also apply.

Scores side by side

The price assessment clearly follows the total annual amount in the table. In the choice between Eneco and Vattenfall, Eneco is the cheapest based on the total annual amount in this table. This is based on the combination of current rates, fixed charges, feed-in charges and welcome discounts together. So a lower electricity rate does not automatically mean that the supplier in question is also cheaper when all is said and done.

When it comes to customer experiences, Eneco currently has the edge. A comparison of Eneco and Vattenfall experiences shows that customers particularly appreciate the clear usage overview, the app and a smooth switch at Eneco. Criticism of Eneco concerns, among other things, accessibility, deviating invoices and usage data that is temporarily missing.

Vattenfall also receives positive feedback, particularly when it comes to the monthly reports and the app. Personal contact at Vattenfall is strikingly often rated less well than at Eneco. Do compare reviews with caution, though. Eneco, for example, actively invites customers to write a review, which can have an impact on the review results. As a result, the groups of reviewers are not fully comparable.

In terms of sustainability, the difference is small. Both suppliers supplied exclusively renewable electricity to private customers. At Vattenfall, it came entirely from Dutch wind, sun and water. At Eneco, 98,8 percent came from Dutch wind and sun. This is shown by the verified electricity labels of Vattenfall and Eneco. As a result, Vattenfall scores better on sustainability in our view. Do bear in mind: the electricity label in itself does not say how much the two companies additionally invest in new sustainable generation.

Who should choose what?

You want the lowest total annual amount: Eneco

Choose the price winner from the table if you mainly want to save and both contracts have the same term. Do take care, though, because Eneco is considerably cheaper mainly because of the welcome discount. In the long term, it is not necessarily the case that Eneco will remain the cheapest. So comparing in good time remains important.

You have solar panels: Vattenfall

With the calculation basis used, you can fully net the electricity fed back until 31 December 2026 inclusive. Until that date, the feed-in fee only applies to a surplus after net metering and therefore plays no role in this example.

From 1 January 2027, you will receive a fee for every kWh fed back, but you will also pay feed-in charges on it. Whether Vattenfall is then cheaper depends on the net fee and the other contract costs. Vattenfall appears to be cheaper at the moment. However, make a personal comparison based on your own details.

You want to arrange everything in one app: Vattenfall

Choose Vattenfall if you want to arrange a lot of energy matters via your phone. In 2026, the Vattenfall app scores an average of 4,7 stars in the Dutch App Store, compared with 4,0 for the Eneco app. Users particularly appreciate the insight into usage, costs and charging options. Critical reviews report that usage data is sometimes temporarily missing, but the overall verdict remains clearly more positive than for Eneco.

Switching between Eneco and Vattenfall

Switching from Vattenfall to Eneco works in principle the same way as switching from Eneco to Vattenfall. With a normal switch, the new supplier arranges the termination of your old contract. Expect a lead time of about two to six weeks.

1
Check the end date of your contract

First check in Mijn Eneco or Mijn Vattenfall when your current contract expires. You can terminate a variable or dynamic contract without a cancellation fee, with a statutory notice period of a maximum of thirty days. If you terminate a fixed contract before the end date, the supplier may charge a cancellation fee based on the remaining financial loss; during the last thirty days of the contract you can always switch free of charge.

2
Compare contracts from Vattenfall and Eneco

Compare Eneco and Vattenfall with the same usage, the same contract term and the same amount of feed-in. Look at the total annual amount including fixed supply charges, feed-in charges and welcome discount. After all, a supplier with the lowest electricity rate is not automatically the cheapest choice.

3
Sign up with the new supplier

If you want to switch from Eneco to Vattenfall, you sign up with Vattenfall and choose a suitable start date. When switching from Vattenfall to Eneco, you do the same at Eneco. With a normal switch at the same address, you do not have to cancel your old contract yourself. After all, the new energy supplier arranges the cancellation for you.

4
Check the confirmation and final bill

After the application, you have a cooling-off period of fourteen calendar days. In the contract confirmation, check the rates, discount, start date and expected feed-in charges. After the switch, also compare the meter readings and final bill from your old supplier with your own details.

Frequently asked questions about Eneco vs Vattenfall

The lowest price is not the only point of attention in a possible switch between Eneco and Vattenfall (or vice versa). Below, we answer five practical questions about the comparison between these two leading energy suppliers.

Who is cheaper, Eneco or Vattenfall?

Op 26-09-2026 is Eneco, according to the table, € 23 per month cheaper. The difference arises from the combination of supply rates, fixed supply charges, feed-in charges and the current cash discount. So compare the total annual amount and not just the price per kWh or m³.

Can I simply switch between Vattenfall and Eneco ?

Yes, but first check the end date of your current contract. The switch usually takes two to six weeks and the new supplier arranges the changeover. With a fixed contract that is still running, a cancellation fee may apply. For variable and dynamic contracts no cancellation fee applies, but a statutory notice period of a maximum of thirty days does.

How up to date is this comparison?

The prices, deals and feed-in charges are updated daily; the reviews and composite scores are refreshed weekly. The date of the most recent price measurement is shown with the table. The editorial check of the terms and conditions took place on 22 August 2026 on the basis of the current Eneco terms and conditions and the Vattenfall terms and conditions.

Can I keep using Toon if I switch from Eneco to Vattenfall?

Yes, Toon keeps working when you switch to Vattenfall. You can also keep a Toon subscription as a non-Eneco customer, but Toon does not know Vattenfall's rates and therefore calculates your energy costs with an average supply rate. According to Eneco, without a subscription Toon keeps working as an ordinary thermostat, but various smart functions are lost.

Can I switch if I have district heating from Eneco or Vattenfall?

Yes, you can switch for electricity. For district heating you stay with the fixed heat supplier at your address, but for electricity you can take out a contract with another energy supplier. Vattenfall confirms on its website that customers with district heating can purchase only electricity from Vattenfall while their existing heat contract continues.
