The expert review of Vandebron

4,8

Our score 4,8, 20th of 20 suppliers

Vandebron has made it easy to arrange your energy matters yourself. Via Mijn Vandebron you arrange the most important matters relating to your energy contract. Among other things, you can adjust your instalment amount, report a move, change personal details and submit meter readings. You can also find your contract, rates, invoices and annual bill via Mijn Vandebron.

With a smart meter, your usage appears automatically in Mijn Vandebron and the Vandebron app. According to Vandebron, this information is usually updated within a day. Sometimes it takes longer, because the supplier depends on the smart meter and the grid operator. So if a day is missing from the usage overview, this does not immediately mean that the final bill is wrong. If in doubt, check the meter readings and the annual bill.

The app also shows how much energy you use, roughly what that costs and when a relatively large amount of green electricity is available. With a dynamic contract the app also shows the hourly electricity prices. Reviews regularly mention the app as a plus point. Overall, experiences with the Vandebron app are very good. Sometimes, however, users report missing gas data or find the usage overview not entirely clear.

Electricity and gas

All Vandebron rates today

In 2026 Vandebron offers fixed, variable and dynamic energy contracts. With a fixed contract the supply rates are fixed for one, two or three years. A variable contract runs for an indefinite period and the rates can change in the meantime. With a dynamic contract the electricity price changes every hour and the gas price every day. The dynamic contract runs for an indefinite period and can be cancelled free of charge with a notice period of five working days. A dynamic contract with Vandebron can be interesting if you can shift a lot of usage to cheap hours.

The Vandebron rates depend on your address, usage, contract duration, solar panels and the sales channel. So do not look only at the rate per kWh or m³. The total annual amount also consists of fixed supply charges, taxes, grid operator charges and the Vandebron feed-in charges. Only deduct a welcome discount from the annual costs after you have checked when you will receive it.

Promotion terms can differ per offer. With a two-year offer we checked via Gaslicht.com the discount was credited in two equal parts on the annual bill. The promotion applied only to new customers, with someone counting as new if they had not been a Vandebron customer for at least one year. An offer via Vandebron itself or another comparison site may have different terms. So always check the terms of the offer you actually take out.

Vandebron feed-in charges with solar panels

With fixed and variable contracts, Vandebron charges for electricity that you feed back to the grid with solar panels. For new contracts, according to the explanation of 4 March 2026, the Vandebron feed-in charges are calculated with a price per kWh actually fed back. For older contracts a tier system with fixed amounts may still apply.

At Vandebron, feed-in charges are calculated on the electricity that actually goes to the grid. That is different from your feed-in after net metering. So even if on an annual basis you feed back less than you consume, you can still pay feed-in charges at Vandebron. You can find your personal price in your contract confirmation or Mijn Vandebron. An estimate made at the time of application is corrected on the annual or final bill based on the actual feed-in.

With a dynamic contract you do not pay the same Vandebron feed-in charges as with a fixed or variable contract. Up to and including 2026, within your net metering limit you receive the hourly price, the purchasing fee and the energy tax back. For the part above that limit you receive only the hourly price and pay a selling fee. From 1 January 2027 the selling fee applies to all electricity fed back. With a negative hourly price the net compensation can therefore become negative.

The net metering scheme ends on 1 January 2027. For multi-year contracts with solar panels, Vandebron therefore states separate feed-in terms for the period up to and including 2026 and from 2027. Check both periods before you take out a contract.

Fair assessment

Our verdict on Vandebron

Vandebron is mainly interesting if you value green electricity that is demonstrably generated in the Netherlands. The overview of sources and the electricity label make the sustainability story more concrete than a general claim about green energy. The free choice of fixed, variable and dynamic contracts and the extensive app are also strong points. However, the supplier is not automatically the cheapest. Households with solar panels in particular should carefully calculate the Vandebron feed-in charges.

Advantages

  • According to the electricity label, Vandebron supplies exclusively renewable electricity generated in the Netherlands.
  • You can see which Dutch wind or solar source your electricity comes from.
  • Vandebron offers fixed, variable and dynamic energy contracts, so you can choose from different contract types.
  • Via Mijn Vandebron and the app you can view, among other things, your usage, invoices, instalment amount, contract and rates.
  • Positive Vandebron experiences often concern the accessibility of customer service, the user-friendly app and the sustainable character of the supplier.

Disadvantages

  • Households with solar panels pay feed-in charges at Vandebron, which reduces the financial benefit.
  • The Vandebron rates are not among the cheapest offers for every level of usage and at every moment.
  • Critical Vandebron experiences concern, among other things, unclear invoices, the calculation of instalment amounts and missing usage data in the app.
  • Since 2020 Vandebron has been part of Vandebron and thereby ultimately of E.ON, which detracts from the pure sustainability story.
Questions and answers

Frequently asked questions about Vandebron

The Vandebron price over time

The Vandebron rates largely move along with purchase prices on the energy market. According to the historical price overview, energy prices rose exceptionally sharply in 2022, after which they fell again in 2023. In 2024, 2025 and the first quarter of 2026 prices were more stable, with smaller differences per month. How quickly you notice these changes depends on your contract. Vandebron usually recalculates its variable rates every three months, while with a dynamic contract the electricity price changes per hour and the gas price per day. With a fixed contract the agreed supply rates stay the same for the duration of the contract. Falling market prices do not, incidentally, automatically lead to an equally large drop in your energy bill. Taxes, grid operator charges, fixed supply charges and Vandebron feed-in charges can change separately.

What readers pay attention to

Perhaps the most striking feature of Vandebron is the link with Dutch energy producers. You can choose which Dutch producer Vandebron administratively links your electricity usage to. The electricity from that producer does not flow directly to your home, but is accounted for through guarantees of origin. The current overview of sources includes, for example, the solar panels of the Van Deelen family and wind energy from Windpark Andorraweg. In this way Vandebron makes it more concrete who produces the electricity for its customers.

Vandebron's electricity label for 2025 states 100% renewable electricity from the Netherlands. The supplied mix consisted of 64% wind energy, 35% solar energy and 1% bio-energy. The label lists no coal, natural gas or nuclear power. This sets Vandebron apart from contracts that are made green solely with foreign guarantees of origin.

The gas supplied is not renewable gas. Vandebron collects a contribution linked to gas consumption and invests it in Dutch sustainability projects. Among other things, the company mentions planting a forest in Groningen. That does not make the natural gas itself emission-free.

How to switch to Vandebron

Check the deal

Enter your postcode, house number and annual usage. If you have solar panels, also state your expected feed-in. Compare the total annual amount including the fixed supply charges, any discount and the Vandebron feed-in charges.

Apply in five minutes

Choose the contract and enter your personal details, bank details and desired start date. Check the end date of your current contract to avoid a cancellation fee. For a normal switch, Vandebron cancels your old contract.

14-day cooling-off period

From the day after you have concluded the agreement, you have a fourteen-day cooling-off period. If you want to receive energy during that period and then cancel after all, you pay only for the energy supplied. Vandebron normally starts supplying only after the cooling-off period, unless you explicitly ask for an earlier start date. Your connection and meter stay the same, so you will not be left without electricity or gas.
