Expert review of Tibber
Our score 5,5, 17th of 20 suppliers
Tibber suits you especially if you have an electric car, heat pump, home battery or other controllable appliance. The combination of quarter-hour prices, automatic smart charging, an open range of Power-ups and detailed consumption information is meant to make it possible to save by managing your consumption smartly. You do have to be able and willing to use those functions, because otherwise the Tibber model offers few advantages.
There is also a downside to the story. Your electricity costs can vary considerably from month to month. The fixed monthly costs weigh relatively heavily with very low consumption, and a large part of customer service runs through AI first. You also depend on the compatibility of car software, are limited to specific charging station brands, and the inverter must also be compatible. Moreover, Tibber's own legal information states that the company does not guarantee the continued compatibility of third-party devices. A Tibber subscription can certainly be interesting for some people, but it is not automatically so for everyone.

All Tibber rates today
According to the Productvoorwaarden Tibber Dynamisch Elektriciteit (Tibber dynamic electricity product terms) published on 30 August 2026, the electricity rate consists of the EPEX Day-Ahead price per quarter hour, the purchasing fee, energy tax and VAT. On top of that come the fixed supply charges and grid operator charges. Unlike many other energy suppliers, it is not the case that Tibber feed-in charges charges. The product terms state that if quarter-hour data fails technically due to an outage, Tibber may also fall back on the EPEX hourly price or an average spot price. In any case, you need a readable smart meter for a dynamic Tibber subscription.
Tibber feed-in charges and feed-in compensation
In 2026, Tibber does not work with feed-in tiers or a fixed amount for solar panels. According to the explanation about net metering and feeding back of 23 February 2026, you receive the exchange price of the quarter hour in which you feed back, and Tibber charges a selling fee on every kWh fed back. Functionally, that fee is a variable cost item linked to feed-in. They are not real feed-in charges, but it is of course still a cost.
Up to and including 2026, Tibber nets the energy tax on an annual basis. The exchange value of consumption and feed-in can differ, however, because solar power is often fed back during cheap midday quarter hours and electricity is consumed later at a higher price. With a dynamic contract, an equal number of kWh therefore does not automatically mean an equal amount.
From 1 January 2027, net metering ends. Tibber's support article of 29 July 2026 states that Tibber will then pay the bare exchange price for every kWh fed back, drop the current selling fee and charge no separate feed-in charges. The product terms refer to the weighted average EPEX quarter-hour price.

What customers think of Tibber
Tibber gets a score of 5,5 from us, based on the points below
What customers think of Tibber
The app is Tibber's hobbyhorse. That is why Tibber experiences in the app stores are especially relevant. On 30 August 2026, the Tibber app scored 4,2 out of 5 stars from 349 ratings in the Dutch Apple App Store. Google Play showed a rounded score of 4,0 out of 5 stars from approximately 13.700 ratings. Positive experiences with the Tibber app mainly concern the clear price and consumption overview, the current electricity prices and the connections with electric cars, charging stations and smart devices. However, recent Google Play reviews also mention problems. Users report, among other things, that after an update or switching to a new phone they could not log in, saw a black screen or temporarily received incorrect consumption data. The visible Apple reviews are predominantly positive
For the more general Tibber experiences, on 30 August 2026 we looked at, among other things, recent Dutch-language or Dutch-tagged Trustpilot reviews, plus verified switching reviews on Gaslicht.com. Positive Tibber reviews mainly mention the clear consumption overview, the integrations and automatic charging at cheap times. Negative Tibber reviews more often concern the slow handover from the AI assistant to a staff member, problems with charging station integrations, signing up and occasional billing disputes.
Is Tibber cheap?
Tibber can be cheap, but it is not automatically the cheapest dynamic supplier. The exchange price is basically the same for all dynamic suppliers. The difference comes from the fixed costs, purchasing fee, feed-in conditions and any discount. Especially if you can automatically shift an electric car, heat pump or home battery to cheap quarter hours, you can gain extra benefit from a dynamic energy contract.
Is Tibber reliable?
Yes, Tibber is a reliable energy supplier. The company has existed internationally since 2016, has more than one million users, and Tibber Netherlands B.V. has held an ACM licence for electricity since 11 March 2021. Gas is supplied by EnergyZero B.V., which also has an ACM licence.
Is Tibber sustainable?
According to its electricity label for 2025, Tibber supplies fully renewable electricity. The mix consisted of 65% European wind energy, 33% European hydropower and 2% European solar energy. The electricity is therefore certified green, but not generated exclusively in the Netherlands. Gas runs via EnergyZero and is natural gas whose CO₂ emissions are offset.
Does Tibber have a good app?
Yes, Tibber has one of the more extensive energy apps, especially for households with smart devices. In the app you can see prices, consumption, costs and invoices, and you can link, among other things, an electric car, charging station, inverter, home battery or heating. The quality of the smart functions does depend on the support for, and continued compatibility of, your equipment.
How do I switch to Tibber?
You apply for the contract via Tibber's website or app. With a normal switch at the same address, Tibber arranges the termination of your old energy contract. For the regular dynamic electricity contract you need a remotely readable smart meter.
How can I review Tibber?
You can share your experience with Tibber via Google or Trustpilot. For the app, you can also post a review in the Apple App Store or Google Play. If you switched via a comparison site, you may be able to leave a verified switching review there.

Pros and cons of Tibber
| Advantages | Disadvantages |
|---|---|
| The app gives extensive insight into quarter-hour prices, consumption, costs and invoices. | Your electricity bill varies per month and is not spread over the year with an equal advance payment. |
| Slim Laden and other Power-ups can automatically control cars, charging stations, heating, inverters and batteries. | Smart functions only work well if your exact car, charging station, inverter or other device is supported. Tibber does not guarantee the continued compatibility of third-party devices. |
| The dynamic contract can be cancelled daily without a cancellation fee. | Customer service is strongly digital and usually starts with an AI assistant. People who want direct telephone contact may find that less pleasant. |
| According to Tibber, it charges no profit margin on the energy consumption itself. | You do pay fixed costs and purchasing fees. With low consumption, the fixed costs weigh relatively heavily. |
| With Grid Rewards you can receive a payment when Tibber temporarily adjusts the charging time to support the grid. | The Guarantees of Origin come from Europe and not exclusively from the Netherlands. Gas remains fossil, even when the emissions are offset. |
Frequently asked questions about Tibber
Switching to Tibber
Step 1: check your meter and current contract
Tibber's regular dynamic contract requires a remotely readable smart meter. Also check the end date of your current contract. Tibber itself does not charge switching fees, but your previous supplier may do so if you have an ongoing fixed contract.
Step 2: sign up via the app or website
Enter your address, meter details and expected consumption and choose electricity or electricity with gas. Tibber says it will cancel your existing contract with a normal switch at the same address. After signing up you keep a fourteen-day cooling-off period. Gas runs via the partnership with EnergyZero, even though you manage the sign-up from Tibber. According to the sign-up FAQ of 22 October 2025, a normal first start date is at least eighteen days after the application, partly due to the statutory cooling-off period.
Step 3: check the start and first invoice
Check in the app whether the metering data is coming in and compare the starting readings with your final statement from your previous supplier. You pay for electricity after the month of consumption. For gas you receive an advance invoice.
About Tibber
Tibber started in Norway in 2016 and has been active as a Dutch electricity supplier since 2021. The ACM granted Tibber Netherlands B.V. a licence for supply to small consumers on 11 March 2021. Tibber's regular offering consists of a dynamic energy contract. The electricity price follows the EPEX Day-Ahead exchange per quarter hour. Tibber also offers the legally required model contract, but that is not the product around which the Tibber app and the usual offer are designed.
According to the cost breakdown information, as Tibber shared it on 22 April 2026, you pay fixed supply charges per energy product. For electricity and gas, you also pay a purchasing fee per unit consumed. That fee covers, among other things, trading, imbalance and certification. Tibber says it adds no profit margin on energy consumption. So you pay the exchange price plus taxes, grid operator charges and the agreed fees.
You also take out gas through Tibber, but it is in fact supplied by Tibber Gas Energie Diensten. That is a trade name of EnergyZero B.V. This is stated explicitly in the Productvoorwaarden Dynamische Dagprijs Gas (dynamic daily gas price product terms), version 01/2026, which took effect on 1 January 2026. EnergyZero is listed in the ACM's current licence register as a licence holder for gas.
Tibber subscription and monthly amount
With the Tibber subscription you pay fixed supply charges per month. If you take both electricity and gas, you pay those fixed charges for both contracts. With low consumption, those fixed charges weigh relatively heavily. With high consumption, the Tibber monthly amount has less impact. However, high consumption does not automatically make Tibber cheap. In that case, the purchasing fee and the actual exchange prices become more important.
The Tibber monthly amount works differently for electricity than for gas. According to Tibber's billing explanation of 22 April 2026, you pay for electricity monthly in arrears based on measured consumption. There is no electricity advance payment that is smoothed out over the year. For gas, however, you do pay an advance each month in advance. EnergyZero settles the actual gas consumption later on the annual statement. A high electricity bill in a cold and expensive month is therefore not automatically spread over twelve equal instalments at Tibber.
The Tibber app and smart charging
The Tibber app is one of the big advantages of this energy supplier and distinguishes Tibber from traditional suppliers. Under Analyse (Analysis) in the Tibber app you can see your electricity consumption and costs per day, month and year. According to the app explanation of 22 April 2026, the official metering data from the grid operator can be up to five days delayed. With a Tibber Pulse on the P1 port, consumption is updated every two seconds. The Pulse is not required for the energy contract or for all forms of smart charging.
The cost display in the Tibber app is not a complete advance calculation. Under Analyse, Tibber shows the variable electricity costs including VAT, but not all fixed grid operator charges and not the energy tax reduction either. So look at the invoice for the total. The Tibber app also compares your consumption with similar households and uses pattern recognition to estimate groups of appliances. Without a linked inverter, Tibber cannot fully see the direct self-consumption of solar panels, because that electricity does not pass through the grid meter.
With Tibber Slim Laden (smart charging), you enter a departure time and the desired battery charge. The app uses the prices for the next 24 hours and schedules the charging sessions in the cheapest quarter hours. According to Tibber's Slim Laden FAQ of 13 January 2026, you need a Tibber contract and a supported car or charging station for this. On 30 August 2026, Tibber lists Easee, Zaptec, Wallbox, Charge Amps, zappi and go-e, among others, as supported charging stations. If you mainly want to charge your charging an electric car, check in advance whether your exact combination of charging station and car is supported.
Grid Rewards goes one step further. With a suitable device, Tibber may temporarily start or pause charging when the electricity grid needs support. The Grid Rewards explanation, updated on 13 August 2026, explicitly states that Tibber does not feed electricity back from the car. So it is not vehicle-to-grid.
How green is Tibber?
Tibber's most recent verified electricity label covers 2025. The consumer mix consisted of 65% wind energy, 33% hydropower and 2% solar energy. The Guarantees of Origin came from Europe, not exclusively from the Netherlands. The label states 100% renewable electricity and no fossil or nuclear sources. Tibber can therefore be regarded as a green energy supplier. On 25 April 2025, Tibber also indicated that Dutch GOs were being explored as options, for those who consciously want to contribute to local green projects. As of 30 August 2026, it is not yet clear what this exploration has produced and whether it will actually become an option in the future.
Account and customer service
You manage your contract, electricity invoices, consumption and linked devices mainly in the Tibber app. There is also a web portal. The gas invoices are in a separate Mijn Omgeving (personal account environment). According to the contact information of 5 June 2026, the AI assistant is available via chat day and night. Human help is provided via chat or via the email address hello@tibber.com. Tibber does publish a telephone number, but recommends a call appointment for more complex matters. You send a formal complaint about Tibber to klachten@tibber.com. The quality criteria state a handling period of two to four weeks.
