ThermoSmart review
The Dutch company ThermoSmart has been selling its ‘smart’ thermostat in the Netherlands and Belgium since the end of October 2014. According to ThermoSmart, the small device should deliver an energy saving of 20%.

Not bad at all, we thought. But does the ThermoSmart really live up to all the high expectations that were sketched a year ago? We looked into it for you.
ThermoSmart is a promising start-up that raised enough money through a crowdfunding campaign at the beginning of 2014 to get production started. With a smart thermostat you save considerably on your energy bill every year and can control the temperature in your home anytime, anywhere. That sounds interesting, so be sure to read on...
01The character of the ThermoSmart
A short introduction to the ThermoSmart first: the smart little device measures 123 x 77 x 22,5 mm, works via the Wi-Fi network and displays the room temperature in an attractive way. You can switch the small screen, which is touch-sensitive, on and off, which saves energy. The ThermoSmart can also be operated from the free app via an IOS or Android smartphone, tablet, laptop and computer. This way you can adjust the room temperature wherever and whenever you want.
The ThermoSmart is suitable for all Dutch central heating boilers and available from € 250,- euros.
02The qualities of the ThermoSmart
The ThermoSmart has quite a few qualities that warm our hearts. Here are the qualities of the ThermoSmart in brief:
20% energy saving
We have not yet heard any ThermoSmart user complain that the ‘20% saving’ is not true. The product has now been on the market for more than a year and ThermoSmart seems to be meeting expectations.
The ThermoSmart gets to know your home
Over time, the ThermoSmart knows exactly how to control your central heating boiler. The ThermoSmart constantly adjusts the output of your central heating boiler to bring your home to the desired temperature. This is also one of the reasons why the ThermoSmart manages to save so much energy every year.
The ThermoSmart takes the outside temperature into account The ThermoSmart constantly keeps track of the outside temperature and cleverly adjusts the room temperature to it. This also saves energy!
A programme that suits your lifestyle
Do you leave the house early in the morning at 8.00 and come back in the evening at 18.00 ? The ThermoSmart makes sure it is warm when you are at home. The programme is easy to adjust and, in addition, the little device receives a signal via the GPS system when you are near the house.
Controlling the room temperature anytime, anywhere
Download the ThermoSmart app and you can adjust the temperature from your smartphone, tablet, laptop or computer on several devices at the same time. Ideal when you get home a little later than usual!
03A small drawback
As you have probably already noticed, we are quite enthusiastic about the ThermoSmart. That is of course not without reason. The ThermoSmart is one of the technological developments that is very promising for the future. . It remains a start-up, and they always have to manage to survive first. If the company ceases to exist after a while, the whole system will of course go down immediately. ThermoSmart has promised to come up with a solution and we trust that this will work out.
Installation & operation
To get straight to the point: the user-friendliness of the ThermoSmart is immediately noticeable. The small screen is touch-sensitive, has a number of buttons and is therefore easy to operate (even by grandpa and grandma). You can also check and adjust the room temperature via your smartphone at any moment of the day. In short, the screen of the smart Thermostat and the accompanying app complement each other well.
The ThermoSmart packaging simply fits through your letterbox, should you order it online. With the help of the instruction booklet and video (on YouTube), we think the average person can easily install the ThermoSmart. It is a matter of removing the old thermostat, fitting a boiler interface with the supplied wiring and connecting to the Wi-Fi network. After taking these steps, the ThermoSmart should work.
Would you rather outsource the installation? Then you can have an engineer come round for an amount of 60,- euros.
04Conclusion: is the ThermoSmart an asset?
You will undoubtedly have gathered it from our review already, but the answer to this question is of course a ‘Yes’. The smart ThermoSmart helps you save energy without you having to make any effort yourself. What's more, the house will always be heated when you wake up and when you get home. With the ThermoSmart you will get through the winter without a care!
Work out the monthly amount with your usage and feed-in.
