The incandescent bulb as we knew it for years has had its day. It is no longer sold in shops, and it can hardly be found in Dutch households any more either. The reasons for this are very simple. The production method is outdated, the materials became too expensive, the lifespan was relatively too short and the consumption was too high. Reasons enough to switch to different lighting. The question now is; has it actually become cosier since the farewell to the incandescent bulb.

01Slow light that is ugly

The first successor to the incandescent bulb was the energy-saving bulb. This is a bulb that was bought en masse, but that aroused great aversion. The bulbs turned out to be nowhere near as pleasant to use as an incandescent bulb. The light came on slowly, so that a reaction was first visible in the energy-saving bulb itself. In addition the light was extremely ugly. It turned out to be stark white light that radiated only coldness. That, together with a futuristic appearance, meant that the classic energy-saving bulb never really caught on. Just as well, because it did not make Dutch homes any more beautiful.

02Hello no lamp

Another lamp that enjoyed a short heyday is the halogen lamp. This lamp came onto the market as an improvement on the incandescent bulb and the energy-saving bulb. It turned out to be a lamp whose consumption was not really lower than that of the incandescent bulb. Its appearance was a gain, and thanks to its small size the lamp turned out to be a perfect solution for ceiling lights and in the cooker hood. This lamp did not deliver any savings. It is a fact, though; that the halogen lamp had more atmosphere than the energy-saving bulb. Most halogen lamps turned out to be easy to dim. This meant that the lamp could be adapted to the interior without needing a completely different installation in the wall socket.

03Watch out for LED

The best-selling lamp at the moment is the LED lamp it turns out. The LED lamp owes that popularity to the fact that it is available in very many versions. There are LED lamps the size of a traditional incandescent bulb, but also lamps available in the form of a very small dot. This LED lamp does not need a separate fitting like the halogen lamp. The LED lamp simply fits an E14 or an E27 socket. In addition, it is a lamp that offers atmosphere. The lamp can be dimmed and the LED is also available in a few warmer tones. Moreover, it is a lamp that can be used in every possible interior. In addition, the lamp is dirt cheap. A big advantage for the customer and also an extra incentive to replace the remaining incandescent bulbs in the house with LED lamps.
